Laws

There are several laws in California that pertain to SIDS. Every family/caregiver that has suffered a SIDS death is entitled to a home visit by an appropriately trained public health nurse or social worker. The purpose of the visit is to provide support and resources for the family during this difficult time. There are also laws regarding crib safety and SIDS education to new parents.

Childcare Providers

One in five SIDS deaths occur while the child is being cared for by someone other than the parent. Babies who are used to sleeping on their backs and then are placed on their tummies to sleep by another caregiver or childcare provider are 6-9 times more likely to die from SIDS.
