SIDS

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Program

What is SIDS?

SIDS stands for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. SIDS occurs suddenly and unexpectedly to infants who appear perfectly healthy. Some people call SIDS “crib death”, but cribs do not cause SIDS. SIDS is the most common cause of death for babies from one month to one year of age.

Since the start of the "Back To Sleep" campaign in 1994, the number of babies dying of SIDS has decreased by more than 50 percent.
