The people of Babies First work to ensure all pregnant women receive adequate and continuous prenatal care and that their infants and children have access to quality primary preventive health care.
Mothers who use tobacco, alcohol and other drugs during and after pregnancy put their children at great risk of low birthweight, prematurity and developmental delays. Babies First has implemented a community wide model for early intervention in perinatal substance abuse as part of its work.
Perinatal depression interferes with a mother's ability to provide the care and nurturing so important to the healthy development of her baby. Babies First is building community capacity for early identification and service for depression.
Breastfeeding is the gold standard of nutrition for babies. It is beneficial to a child's development, reducing illness and fostering optimum child development and parenting.
